Capability Statement

CHECOD Health Systems Research and Development Limited (CHECOD) was established in 2023 as a private-profit research, advisory, training, development and advocacy consulting enterprise in health and human services. The organization was created and guided by a group of African multidisciplinary professionals comprising development economists, health economists, health professionals, supply chain management experts, statisticians, social and behaviour scientists, and public financial management specialists. CHECOD is affiliated with the Centre for Health Economics and Development and CHECOD Africa Limited, established in 2010 to improve health systems development in Africa through health economics and policy-oriented health services, training, research, knowledge creation, dissemination and advocacy and are leading organizations in the health coordination, planning, financing, and resource-tracking landscape in Nigeria. Thus far, CHECOD has functioned appreciably well as a technical assistance resource center on health economics and health system strengthening for economic development in Zambia.

Our technical resource persons have directly driven some activities based on their existing relationships in-country with the Ministry of Health’s Child Health Care Unit, directly with the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) through the World Health Organization (WHO), where they exhibited the capacity to receive, manage, and implement activities using donor funds with a strong commitment to compliance and accountability. CHECOD has supported several donor-funded projects in collaboration with international and national organizations, including WHO, UNICEF, CIDRZ, CHAZ, GRID3 Zambia, PATH, Global Fund, World Bank, BMGF and USAID (Discover Health & JSI). While our experiences indicate well-intended and funded initiatives, we observe that an enabling environment for a local contextual approach to implementation could contribute to substantial improvement in ownership, efficient resource utilization and sustainability.
